How to install the GalactiQuest games

Although the GalactiQuest games can be played in the browser, for the best experience, we strongly recommend that you download the game-file and play them offline in a Commodore 64 emulator. Instructions below.

  1. To play GalactiQuest, your must first DOWNLOAD THE GALACTIQUEST DISK IMAGE FILE. Remember what folder you save it to, as you will need it later on.
  2. If you do not already have a Commodore 64 emulator installed, please install one. I recommend the VICE emulator. Choose the right version for your computer model (Windows or Mac).
  3. After extracting the emulator file, navigate to the VICE folder and open the x64sc app.

As a bonus, the download file also includes two extra demos: Flying Saucer I and Flying Saucer II. I wrote the first Flying Saucer game in 1983 as one of my first attempts at digital storytelling. Featuring an inconsistent user interface, atrocious spelling, and a weak plot, Flying Saucer was nonetheless a landmark personal achievement for this young programmer. It was literally the spiritual predecessor to the GalactiQuest series; indeed, the first GalactiQuest game was originally intended as a sequel to Flying Saucer. But while still in development, I decided to change its name and make it the start of a new series. After writing a few more GalactiQuest sequels, it felt like time to give Flying Saucer its own legitimate sequel. Flying Saucer II both lampoons and improves upon my earlier primitive effort. Enjoy!
