This little cartoon had been rattling around in my brain for 27 years before I finally got around to drawing it. Why did it take me so long? Maybe because I knew it wasn't very funny. But it wouldn't go away, so I eventually had to "get it out" and here it is.
It all started in 1998 when I was working at Cateraid for the summer. Cateraid is the best-managed company I ever worked for. Everyone chipped in to help; no chore was beneath anyone. We all took turns washing dishes and mopping floors, in addition to baking cookies and decorating cakes. One day, while I was mopping cake batter off the floor, the thought came to me: "What if I there was soap on the floor, instead of cake batter? The floors would be so clean! What if I worked at a soap factory instead of a bakery?" And this drawing was born.
